Trick or Treat?

Okay so I'm not a fan of Halloween. I've never been all into the dressing up thing, I hate haunted houses and scary movies, etc. And then my company decided that they would have a big Halloween "to do" and have everyone decorate their areas, dress up in costume and have contests and everything. I really didn't know what to expect but by Friday my teammates had spent money and time decorating our area and I just couldn't sit by and not help out. I took the plunge and joined in. I didn't go crazy or anything - just put up black trash bags on everything to help with the decor, etc. I did not dress up in costume other than a tshirt that said "this is my costume..." well anyway, I must say. This place really went all out. I was very impressed with the amount of effort and creativity put into decorating! Now, I have to be careful here because I do not wish to be added to the list of those who get fired for talking about work on their blogs but considering I have no intention or reason to bash my company or to give away any top-secret information I think this is a safe topic. One area dressed up in Slush Puppie attire/gear and they decorated their area with information for a Pet adoption agency complete with pet information sheets on the back of chairs, etc. They actually took donations - it was so cool! They mixed Halloween fun with a real cause! Another area did a slumber party massacre complete with gory makeup consisting of a slit throat, sliced head, etc. It was very gruesome but actually VERY well done! An area did a corrections facility with each cubicle decorated as a prison cell, each employee wearing a jumpsuit and fake tattoos, etc. the HR department did a slumber party theme saying "staying up all night for you" so they had camping gear, sleeping bags and pajamas. Very cute. One of my favorites (aside from the pound) was the Brand Pageant Beauties. I gotta say, they were creative. Crowns made from soda boxes, bouquets made from cans and they walked around all day "parading". It was too cool. There were many more but those are the ones that stood out to me. We had a lot of good individuals and small groups as well and then at 3:30 - THE KIDS CAME. People had spouses or friends or whoever bring their kids up to the office in costume and there were committee members in every breakroom giving out candy and other toys/treats. They were so adorable! Little costumes and candy baskets and wide eyes at the decorations. that was my favorite part. Aside from eating a lot of candy myself. So in conclusion I must say that I do not "hate" halloween. I don't like the scary stuff and I hate reading in the news about the psychos who go out and take advantage of such an occasion to be violent and crude. But the decorating in themes and the creative costumes and the cute little kids - that aspect, I can enjoy. Hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween.
