Redneck woman all the way

Okay so maybe my neck isn't actually red but man I love that song. by the way I am working on another post but its pretty deep and extensive so I'm still working on it. To be posted soon!
For now, I have to share how excited I am about this weekend. I am going to East Texas (Rusk area to be specific) to see a guy I went to HS with but haven't seen since. Thats right, 11 years actually because he left after our Junior year. We were friends back then though, and I'm excited to have reconnected with him and now get to spend a weekend with him. yes, there is "potential" there! But the best part is that he lives out in the country and runs his own chicken farm. No, not some little podunk farm but an actual business growing and tending to over 100,000 chickens that every 7 weeks get "exchanged" through Pilgrims' Pride. He has week old chicks right now that I'm super excited to see - they are so cute when they are tiny and fuzzy! Now some of you are probably thinking, oh my gosh thats gonna stink so bad, but he swears to me that because he feeds them microbiotic feed that you can't smell them from 150 yards (ie you can't smell them from the house). I will be the judge of that.... but i'm hoping he's right because while I don't really mind chickens, I'm pretty sure the smell is NOT pleasant. I've smelled the turkey farms out by my parents house - now THAT is some raunchy smell. but those are also open air and probably not very well kept. Anyhow, on top of the cute baby chickens to play with, he is taking me for a train ride on the
  • Texas State Railroad
  • which I've heard from many people is actually pretty fun. Of course, the funny part is that he got us open air tickets which means he will probably sweat to death. Granted I'll sweat too but I don't mind it. I like the open air! Even in this Texas heat. ALSO, he told me last night that he has acquired 2 Border Collie mix puppies - still all cute and fuzzy!!! Awwwww! So yeah, I am anticipating a totally fun country weekend with chickens, puppies, horses, big trucks, and a train ride! Plus, time with Caleb Mack that may just turn into 'something'. we shall see. I may not want to come home. I live in the city because this was where good jobs were, and now I've been here 5 years. Yes I have a great job but the minute I get the chance, a real chance, to move back out to the country, I will pack my bags and never look back. Its funny how you think you want something, and then once you've had it for a while you realize you really don't want it, not forever. When I was living in Clifton I was young and active and bored out of my mind, so moving to the city was perfect. But now, the older I get the slower I want to be and the less interested I am in the cities "sparkle". The more I prefer sitting on a porch swing drinking sweet tea and enjoying the clean country air. There is a song on the radio that gets me every time I hear it. "I miss Mayberry, sitting on the porch drinking ice cold cherry coke, where everything is black and white, sitting on the porch swing where people pass by and they know you by your first name, watching the world go by"

    Men just shouldn't wear speedo's

    Highlights from the trip:

My super cheap backpack broke going through the security scan in DFW before I even got on my first plane. At 6 a.m nothing was open so I had to carry the split backpack carefully until I could get a new one in Miami!

On the plane from Miami to Punta Cana, sat next to a couple about my age. She slept curled up sideways in her seat, so he read his book leaning on the armrest and into my personal space. At one point he even shared my tray to rest his magazine one since his wife's knees were invading HIS space. Thankfully he was a nice guy so I didn't mind too much....
Dean on the other hand, had an asian woman's stinky feet practically in his lap. She had stretched out her legs across her husbands lap so that her bare feet were almost touching dean's leg. (She later appeared to be stalking us as she was at the same resort, and several times ate meals at the same time, at tables near us!!)

On our first night at dinner, we spotted Punk Rock Grandma. She appeared to be in her 60's, wearing sparkles all over, and had white spikey hair with spots of blue and pink coloring. Oh yes. Blue and pink. In her hair. She wore heels all the time even though she didn't seem to walk too well. We spotted her several times over the course of the week - she was one cool lady. Until of course we saw her in a thong and topless at the pool. *shiver*

Many many many men in speedos. Big, small, hairy, young, old, whatever. Little boys are cute in little speedos. But when a guy wears one thats too small and therefore might as well be walking around naked (no actually that would be worse), its just gross. sorry guys. but thats just not attractive!

Bright red bodies not accustomed to so much sun and yet they continued to lay out by the pool

Brown leather skin lady at the pool - seriously she looked like a very well tanned leather purse.

Topless woman in her panties - not bikini bottoms, underwear I tell you - talking to her 15 year old son. topless. thats just wrong

Every time I spoke a few words in spanish to one of the workers they would respond rapid fire saying things I didn't understand. I would then laugh and say "se habla anglais, un poco espanol" to which they would laugh and say "american?" it was great.

Bartering in the shopping square, arguing over the value of the goods. The guy we finally bought from, took a lighter and ran it over the jewelry to prove it wasn't plastic! I brought him a necklace from another vendor and he lit it with the lighter and it burned!!! *oops*

Dean got severely sunburned the first day so we spent a lot of time under shade or in the lobby playing Skip Bo. He drank many margaritas, I preferred a drink called Adelita and Coco Loco's. Yummmmmy.

At the restaurants the desserts were weird. I ordered ginger cake with vanilla sauce. I got a muffin (without the wrapper but with the obvious ridges) that was ginger flavored and had raisins on the bottom. Yes there was vanilla flavored sauce flourished around it. Then at another restaurant I ordered bread pudding. It was a triangle with texture similar to gelatin and topped not with whiskey sauce but with rasperry topping. Ew. Dean ordered apple tart with caramel sauce. He got a small cake that had apples in it but was topped with bright pink ice cream that tasted like the bubble gum flavored toothpaste they use at the dentist!

okay thats enough for today. more to come. :-)
